On November 9, Automotive News honored its 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry for the fourth time since 2000. General Motors’ CEO Mary Barra spoke at the special event, which took place at the Fisher Music Center in Detroit, Michigan, and Faurecia’s Elizabeth Griffith, Director of Product Design and Development – GM Global for FIS North America, was among the distinguished honorees.
This is the second time that Griffith received the prestigious award; she won in 2005 while at Magna International (then Intier Automotive Interiors, Inc.). “I am incredibly honored to be included in such an august group of automotive women. The breadth and depth of talent since the 2000 start of this event has grown exponentially. It’s a testament of not only surviving but excelling in a male-dominated technical field,” said Griffith.
Recognizing top female executives at automakers, suppliers and dealerships, every five years Automotive News compiles a list of women who have made significant contributions to the automotive industry. The selected candidates have to be in a senior position of substantial responsibility and to have had a major, positive effect on their company’s operations. Characteristics such as “perseverance in the face of diversity, an uncanny ability to multitask and the flexibility to go from micro to macro strategic thinking in the blink of an eye” are some of the things these leading women share, said Griffith.
Griffith, who came out of retirement to join Faurecia in 2010, spent her career at various OEMs and suppliers, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience to her position. Griffith said, “To be recognized a second time after a retirement hiatus is particularly gratifying.”
“I’m pleased to add my congratulations to the chorus of Elizabeth’s colleagues and friends on this prestigious award.” Mark Stidham, President of Faurecia North America said. “We are very fortunate to have her as a part of the Faurecia team in North America.”
